Play interview

Jamaican Prime Minister, Bruce Golding, in a HARD talk interview shown on 20th May 2008 with Stephen Sackur, BBC, was for the most part, quick on his feet and deadly accurate. However his calm and composed mood was shaken as Stephen Sackur started throwing out questions based on Jamaica’s apparent “intolerance to homosexuality.”

What would have otherwise been a spectacular night, ended in, what some viewers called, “shock and awe,” as Jamaicans watched their Prime Minister painted as homophobic and intolerant to people of different cultural beliefs.

But what are the underlying implications of the accusations? Will the government maintain its strong stance against homosexuals in parliament, if a majority percentage of the Jamaican population becomes homosexual? Does Bruce Golding himself seek to defend the morality and culture of the Jamaican people, from even the Jamaica people themselves?
